the last three months or so,
Ive been witness as have you to the most hateful, vicious,
slanderous, deplorable, and vile finger-pointing and condemnatory
verbal flame-throwing imaginable. Its called a presidential
campaign. And it rears its venomous head and cuts its wide swath of
destructiveness to friendships, families, and neighbor-relations
every four years.
But I think what is more tragic is
that it never goes away it only gets put on the back burner to
simmer for another four years. The losing party takes ridiculous
shots at the winner, all sorts of conspiracy theories get hatched to
explain away the outcome, and the intelligence of those who voted
for the winner is severely questioned.
I was thinking about all this
while perusing one of my favorite books this morning "Treasury of
Spiritual Wisdom" and decided to share with you some of the
quotations I found under the category of "Faultfinding." Truly,
something for you to think about.
Whoever is aware of his own
failings will not find fault with the failings of other
men. James Ross
The girl who cannot dance says
the band cannot play. Yiddish proverb
No man can justly censure or
condemn another, because indeed no man knows another. Thomas
Brown
You have in yourself all the
faults which you scorn in others. Will Durant
The most savage controversies
are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence
either way. Bertrand Russell
The faultfinder will find
faults even in Paradise. Henry D. Thoreau
How much easier it is to be
critical than to be correct. Benjamin Disraeli
Worrying about the faults of
others is an unnecessary addition to the worry we have over our
own faults. Hazrat Inayat Khan
I see no fault committed by
others that I have not committed
myself.
Johann von Goethe
And why do you behold the mote
that is in your brothers eye, and do not consider the beam that
is in your own eye? Jesus the Christ
Think about it.
