ou
know, just when I was beginning to think that I had already
seen the acme of human foolishness, something new comes along that's even
acme-er. This time it's the new politically correct Bible.
Do you know what word-magic is? It's the belief that a word is a thing,
rather than merely a symbol for a thing.
However, if you know that a word is only a symbol for a thing, then you know that doing something to a word will have no effect on the thing it stands for. OK? Let's now return to the idea of a politically correct Bible. All the words in the King James Version of the Bible, or in any other version, for that matter, are symbols. They are not things. So the word “God” is nothing more than a noise when spoken or a funny-looking squiggle on paper when written. It stands for something. But it is not that something. Let me repeat this because it's extremely important: The word “God” stands for something. But it is not that something. So changing the word “God” in any way, or substituting a different word for whatever it is that you intend the word “God” to stand for will have no effect on that whatever it is. None. What is, is, and what ain't, ain't, no matter what words you use. To believe otherwise is to believe in word-magic. By the way, if you do believe that we need a politically correct Bible, it seems that you're already under a spell. Think about it. |
