know, I think I’m like
most people. I read a newspaper from time to time, a magazine when
I’m waiting to see my dentist or having my car lubed or repaired. I
watch Headline News. And I listen to talk radio when I’m in my car
running errands.
Now in connection with that,
something struck me recently for which I have no answer. But
I’m thinking maybe you do.
It suddenly occurred to me
that I frequently hear and read the phrase "women’s issues." But I
never seem to hear or read the phrase "men’s issues."
Now it seems to me that the
term "women’s issues" would have no meaning unless there were such a
thing as "men’s issues." Just like there would be no such thing as
white if there were no such thing as black.
I also frequently hear the
phrases
"black issues" and "homosexual issues." Yet I never seem to
hear or read anything about "white issues" or "heterosexual issues."
I wonder why.
Anyway, while I was pondering
this,
I happened to drop into a metaphysical book store to
browse a bit. Something I love to do. And what do you know? I ran
across a section called "women’s spirituality."
Now I never knew that souls had
gender.
And so being male, I looked for a "men’s spirituality"
section. You know I couldn’t find one. I tried several other
metaphysical book stores with the same result. Could it be a case of
reverse sexual harassment? Maybe. I sure as heck don’t
know.
So maybe you could help me.
If you can explain why there are "women’s issues" but no "men’s
issues," "black issues" but no "white issues," "homosexual issues"
but no "heterosexual issues," and "women’s spirituality" sections in
metaphysical book stores but no "men’s spirituality" sections,
please drop me a line care of the Foundation. I’d really love to
know.
Thanks.
Oh, by the way, if you don’t know why,
either, maybe you ought to think about it.
